Golf clubs within East Africa are hoping to build cohesion and more through a regional inter-club event across the region.
It started about a decade ago with Entebbe and Kigali golf clubs competing over a two-legged affair in Uganda and Rwanda.

Now a new format was born after Kitante’s Uganda Golf Club joined the fray this year. That is the three-in-one Inter-Club Golf Championship which climaxed with Entebbe winning at the weekend.

Hosting the final leg at the par-72 course on Saturday, Entebbe defeated UGC and Kigali to amass 380 points thereby emerging as champions with a collated 1125 points.

The triumph sparkled palpable emotions with players toasting to delight at the podium. Overall female winner Maxi Byenkya was escorted to the front by a handful of cheerful faces to collect her trophy.

Chief guest, Justice minister Nobert Mao and Rwanda’s Ambassador to Uganda Col. Joseph Rutabana handed trophies to all team captains; Jacob Byamukama of Entebbe, UGC’s Emmanuel Wamala and Kigali’s Andrew Kulayigye.

The famous ‘Entebbe Choir’ this time did without their patron Kiryowa ‘K.K’ Kiwanuka but they were in safe hands as the choir master Innocent Kihika and lead singer Elly ‘Sober’ Mukasa took charge of the celebratory hymns.

Much to their surprise, visiting club members from Kigali and UGC were relegated to laughter, handclaps and amusement for the latter part of the prize giving ceremony.

The band of the day would later entertain guests long into the cold night- By Darren Allan Kyeyune
