On December, 18, last year The Hobbit- An Unexpected Journey broke a record, topping worldwide box office sales, listing as the first film in Peter Jackson’s epic The Hobbit trilogy to rake in $223m in its opening weekend. The previous works under the trilogy have all been received well.

The director, Peter Jackson is celebrated in this genre of movies, as he is the guy behind The Lord of the Rings trilogy too. His other notable films include King Kong, The Frighteners, Heavenly Creatures and The Lovely Bones, as well as producing District 9 and The Adventures of Tintin. He brings his great production skills to this Hobbit sequel, which critics have positively called his majestic return to Middle-earth is an earnest, visually resplendent trip.

In this movie, he follows the title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of 13 dwarves, led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever… Gollum.

The musical score for this film was composed by Howard Shore, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and featured several vocal soloists. The original song Song of the Lonely Mountain, sung by Neil Finn, served as the end title theme.

The film has received three Academy Award nominations for Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling as well as praise from critics organisation, Broadcast Film Critics Association.
