Amie Tesa

At 21 years, Amie Tesa has broken through Mbarara’s music industry and is now working on finding her name on East African charts.

Where does the name Amie Tesa come from?
I do not quite remember but all I know is when I was in school my friends used to call me that.

When did you join the music industry?
I have been miming songs since I joined secondary school but kicked off my music career two years ago. It was in Senior Five that I decided to record some of my original compositions. I have many songs but I have been pushing my career with Show Me which has received good airplay in Mbarara.

What inspired you to join music?
Spice Diana and the kind of music that she does forced me to fall in love with music. I do music under her guidance although I have not met her but I do the same kind of music — dancehall.

What is it like doing music in Mbarara?
Mbarara is not competitive because there are not so many singers. When it comes to female musicians, I am only scared of Shayne Omukiga because she has been in theindustry longer than me and I feel she has seen it all.

When do you plan on moving to Kampala?
I am working on moving to Kampala to do music there but I want it to come automatically. I want to first become one of the best artistes in Mbarara and with that, my name will move and they will know me not only in Kampala but East Africa.

Have you performed at big stages in Mbarara?
My biggest performance was at Big Fun in Mbarara. The event had big artistes from Kampala but I managed to make it to the list of performers and came out with a good performance. I had people singing along and shouting my name, it kept me going.

Latinum came from Mbarara and he is now big in Kampala. Any plans of singing with him?
I am not friends with Latinum but when chance to work with him comes, I do not think I can turn it down. I am actually looking forward to the day I have a song with him.

Which other artistes do you wish to work with?
I always dream of working on a song with Spice Diana and Sheebah. I feel like they are the best female artistes that Uganda has at the moment.
