Artiste Joseph Mayanja, commonly known as Jose Chameleone has regretted participating in president Museveni’s campaign song ‘Tubonga Nawe’.

Chameleon was among the 12 artists who pledged their allegiance to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party through the Tubonga Naawe song which was composed ahead of the 2016 General Election.

He was however attacked by sections of the public on social media who said he made a big mistake to associate with the President. There were also calls to boycott his shows.

During his initiation into the Democratic Party (DP), Chameleon said that his participation in the song was entirely business and not politics.

He apologized to whoever was hurt by his participation in the song.

“I was invited to add my value into their destiny, but truthfully, I am a DP person. From my great grandfather. That was a job well done, now this is another job that needs to be well done,” he said.

“When we were doing that particular part, there were many other people in it. Those who decorated, those who cooked, those who printed t-shirts. It was a business and that was a cheque. The times have come back again, it’s now time to serve the people.”

Chameleon said DP has always been his party and that of his family.

Chameleon was accompanied by his two brothers Pallaso and Weasel, and their mother Proscovia Namirimu.

Namirimu appealed to the public to support her son as he seeks political office and never to discriminate him on allegations that he could be a mole.

The DP President Norbert Mao welcomed Chameleon to the party and handed him the card and encouraged him to serve Ugandans. Mao also appointed Chameleon as the National Chief mobilizer of the party.
