How Alex Ndawula influenced Mckenzie to do radio

The death of radio veteran Alex Ndawula hit so many people in different ways. Some were his ardent fans while others were his former workmates but for Bryan Sabiiti Mckenzie, Ndawula was his role model.

The former Hot 100 and Radio presenter narrated how he got the courage to go on radio with the influence of Alex Ndawula in a long post.

“Alex, Christine, Zizinga gave me a reason to love the art of Radio. Alex was such a strong character, very straight forward which actually made him come off compassionate. I called in to this show and talked to Alex just to know that him and I had a conversation atleast once,” he posted.

Adding that he later interviewed him in 2009 about the death of Micheal Jackson while he was the host of Showtime Magazine on WBS. “It’s then that I grabbed my chance of asking him for advice about my Radio show on HOT100 and in pure Alex Fashion… he said “ah fuck outa here… go do you!!!”. I didn’t know how to say thanks after that. We just walked out with my camera crew. I was shivering in excitement. That was my first day to enter Capital Fm Studios, my dream land.”

Mckenzie further said that Radio Presenters are like religious leaders who shape norms of society by being the vessel of truth. “Alex was different, when I first got on air, I wanted to have a voice like Mugisha Roger, speech like Ronnie Mich Egwang, be consistent like Angela Crystal Newman and execute like Fatboy…but I didn’t think I could ever be like Alex. He was just different, unconventional, unruly, super smart, musically informed, consistent and just an all-round fun human being. Dave Chapelle is the Alex Ndawula of Comedy. These people are gifted differently. They have their flaws, but it’s in those cracks that genius is grown.”
