While addressing journalists about his upcoming ‘Tondeka E’kiwatule’ show happening on Boxing Day, Bebe Cool revealed that it was Red Banton that prompted them to return to Uganda with Jose Chameleone.
“This is the first time I am saying this but it was Red Banton who forced us to return to Uganda from Kenya. He was a very big artiste and since we had made ground in Kenya, we needed to make an impact in Uganda as well,” he said.
With his ‘Nonya Money’ song, Red Banton was arguably one of the biggest artistes in the early 20s. This was a time when Bebe Cool and Chameleone were in Nairobi trying to build their professional careers.
Chameleone was the first to return to Uganda with ‘Maama Mia’ and later was Bebe Cool who came later.
