Moses’ is one of the most told stories yet we get a different perspective every time a new production comes up. For the longest time, we had Cecille B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments which was shown almost as much as Jesus of Nazareth was. There have been several others since then. The last one, Exodus: Gods and Kings was such a joke so we will not even go there. Let’s get into Testament: The Story of Moses.

The docu-series tells the story of Moses, a key figure in Christianity, Judaism and Islam who was a prince in Egypt and later a prophet and leader, who received the 10 commandments from God. Charles Dance narrates the three-part feature and we have a cast acting out some of the scenes, and scholars/religious leaders giving commentary.

No matter your religious beliefs, the docu-series is an interesting drama. Interesting because you get to hear from people with different perspectives on what the story of Moses means in today’s context. From conservatives to liberals, Testament has it all.

It has been criticised for having inaccuracies, which should not come as a shock for the same reason that makes it appealing. The fact that it concludes different perspectives. While it may not make it to the list of recommeded resources for scholars, it makes a good addition to Netflix’s abysmal faith and spirituality collection.
