Saturday was a literal party at University Inn, Mbarara as gospel singer Levixone staged his first concert in the city, dubbed Obukomoko, meaning his origin. The singer who hails from Kiruhura District planned the show as a way of tracing his roots and in the end he had a memorable gospel event which many say was a sign of revival for western Uganda.

During the day, the weather seemed gloomy with signs of rain but the singer said, the hand of God held the rain.

There were many prominent gospel names in attendance, including Pr Bugingo, singers Kato Disan, Happy Alex, Best Emilly, Exodus and many others, who were also curtain raisers. Mc Eddy was the host of the night.

All generations, including the young and old attended and at some point you could see old women dozing off.

Levixone was introduced on stage by the Ankole king of the microphone, Mc Kacheche, after midnight and he opened the show with Lord is Watching You and Esala, as he performed many other songs before getting to his collaboration songs; Guno Omwaka and Nobody with Mikie Wine and Otwebembere with Desire Luzinda, before the arrival of the young gospel artiste Hannah Nowe Wonder who also performed with him.

“I have my mzee in attendance who believed in me from the start, he marketed and advertised my show for free, I have no words to describe him but thank him, he is Pastor Aloysius Bugingo,” Levixone said.

Pr Bugingo thanked Levixone for having a regional mega concert before he cautioned Mbarara youth to be mindful and careful about HIV as the World commemorates World AIDs Day.

“It is true Aids still exists and it kills, so I urge you t to protect yourselves. The birth of Jesus Christ means living an everlasting life, Jesus came to give life and life in its abundance, you should not lose life when the saviour is born, be sober, be vigilant because your adversary, the devil, is roaring like a lion, searching for one to devour, we have opened the month with a gospel concert, protect yourself and finish the year,” he said.

Levixone continued with collaborations from RayG, the two sang their hit Yoya before Ray continued with Nobikira as the show closed.

A few revellers we talked to acknowledged that Levixone’s Obukomoko concert in western Uganda pulled both christians and non-christian believers.
