To some, Chance Nalubega is a forgotten artiste whose golden days are way past her but many who attended the second edition of the annual Tugende Mukikadde fete last Saturday evening will say she still has the touch to make her a living legend in Uganda’s music industry.

Chance Nalubega was the 3rd person on stage after Lord Fred Ssebata and Sam and Sofie Gombya. The reception she got was overwhelming. From the first song she did up to the last, most people in the crowd were on their feet, dancing and singing along to the songs. She did eight songs including Gwendikwatako, Abenugu, Abatesi, Guma omwoyo, Omusheshe and Yiga okwagala among others.

We later learnt that her performance was supposed to be 30 minutes but because of the fun that people were having she performed longer than planned.

But more was to come as the crowd’s moods had already been lifted by Chance. They waited to see who would at least do half what Chance Nalubega had done. Eddy Yawe was next on stage. He knew the impact the person who had already left the stage had done. He knew exactly the song that would lift them up and he did it last. It worked! Tukigale did the magic! Unlike Chance, he decided to perform while walking through the audience singing songs like Mukayembe and kati Onoba.

If only Afrigo band had come on stage a little earlier, their performance would also have had a much bigger impact. Even with their first song Afrigo Batuuse the crowd was not as hyper as expected. It was not after Joanita Kawalya did Jim wange that some abandoned their seats to dance.

Afrigo bad was on stage but by the end of the show (1am), almost half the people in the audience had already left.

Sam and Sofie Gombya as well as Fred Ssebata were the other performers during the evening but their performances were all summed up by Chance Nalubega.
