Last year, Maurice Kirya’s concert at Serena Hotel was poorly attended but he still put up a big performance. Last evening, he courageously held his concert in the same venue but decided to barricade off some sections in the auditorium with perhaps fear that his fans might again disappoint him like they did last year.

But, he was in for a big surprise as revelers flocked in the auditorium and by 9pm, some had no decided to sit in the barricaded area. This forced the management to remove some of the barricades.

On stage, the self-proclaimed Mwoyo artiste wasted no time to perform.

Clad in an orange jumper with black jeans and white sneakers he stepped on the stage at about 9pm fired up and serenaded his mostly female fans with timeless tunes of love and affection. He kicked off his one hour and so minutes performance with one of his popukar songs, ‘Headmaster’. Better still, his fans were treated to other songs like ‘Horses in the sky’, ‘Anything you lie’, ‘Nze Ani’, Mulembe gwa Kirya, Busabala and ‘Insane among others.

Unlike other artiste that perform in sessions, Maurice, like he has been waiting for this for the whole year, was on stage the whole time and the only changing time was when he removed the jumper and remained in a white t-shirt. He mixed up his performance by showcasing his guitar skills and also giving his band a few minutes to show what they got with their instruments.

Being referred to as a ladies’ man, Maurice Kirya kept the female fans on their toes, screaming and chorusing his songs on top of their voices every time he sung a love song or wiggled his waist. Some were heard saying Maurice for president while others shouted ‘We love you Maurice’ but most just kept recording the moment using their smart phones.

Despite the fact that he came on stage at 9pm after showcases by Shifa Musisi, Afrie and Jesse Muyonjo, the audience felt cheated when Maurice’s last song came at 10.45pm.
