Last night, the much-revered Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo jetted into the country with a day to spare for rehearsals ahead of the Johnnie Walker Isaiah Katumwa Concert set to take place tomorrow at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Speaking to media at her arrival, Kidjo made comments on the entertainment industry whilst creating anticipation for the upcoming concert.

She expressed high regard for African music, singing praises and reflecting on the culture, advising entertainers to embrace who they are while showing the world our story.

“There is magic in the African continent. We impacted many genres of music in the world and it is rightfully so to say there would be no hip-hop, reggae, blues, rock and roll without the influence of the African legacy,” she said.

She attributed her success to hard work, persistence and constant devotion to her music career.

“Always question everything and never be comfortable in what you are doing, take the risk and always do the best that you can for as long as you are practising your truth,” she added.

Angelique Kidjo is a proud Beninese born national who has been in the music industry for over 30 years and is recognised as one of the most influential African artists both internationally and on the continent.

Kidjo will be performing live in concert with American saxophonist, Darren Rahn and Isaiah Katumwa in celebration of the International World Jazz Day.

Kidjo promised an electric and energetic show for her Ugandan fans.

The concert that is tailor-made for fans of jazz afro-pop, reggae, gospel and classical music will have music lovers enjoy a night of back to back hits at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Tickets to the show are still on sale and go for Shs200,000 as ordinary and Shs4,000,000 for a table that sits 10 at the jazz exclusive concert.
