Business in Mbale town in eastern Uganda Friday came to a standstill for almost three hours shortly after young rapper Patrick Sseyonjo popularly known as Fresh Kid made an entrance ahead of his music shows.

Several traders closed businesses and lined up on Republic Street, Naboa, Pallissa road, Kumi road and Cathedral Avenue, among others as they waved to the seven-year-old artist.  Boda Boda riders hooted in unison as fans ran in excitement to catch a glimpse at of the Banteka singer.

Fresh Kid will today headline the biggest Friday event at Inspire Africa Restaurant and Bar on Naboa road in Mbale town.

Ms Amina Namutosi, a businesswoman in Mbale town told this reporter that it was her first time to see a child of Fresh Kid’s age sing.

”Oh my God! I can’t miss this concert today. I have already requested permission from my husband to go and attend the show and good enough he has granted it,” she said.

By the time of filing this story, hundreds of revellers had started flocking and paying for entrance at the venue for his show.

Some people were seen giving him money as they chorused his popular song Banteka.

One of the organizers of the concert in Mbale said Fresh Kid is one of the most booked artists this Easter Holiday.

“It has not been easy for us as events organizers to have him come to perform in Mbale. We tried as much as possible to convince him and his manager to come and perform for his fans,” he said.

Mr Felix Khambo, another trader, said he can’t miss out on the biggest show this evening because he enjoys his songs.

“He is a very lovely and talented boy and if nurtured well, he will become a star in Africa and beyond,” he said.

Mr Hassan Magambo, a radio personality in Mbale town said he still had issues with State Minister of Youth and Children’s affairs, Nakiwala Kiyingi who was recently criticized by internet users for telling Fresh Kid to drop the mic and go to school.

He said the minister should instead help street kids in Mbale town and other vulnerable children.

“We have hundreds of street children in Mbale town. Let the minister come and take them to school instead of fighting a talented boy,” he said.

Fresh Kid has other songs like Bambi, Bamuzeeyi Mukulu, Taki Taki (cover) which he’s also expected to perform at the Mbale show.
