Madrat and Chiko fail to live up to billing

With a new venue, UMA multipurpose hall, Madrat and Chiko were skeptical getting the numbers. In fact, during preparation on Friday, Chiko was overheard wondering whether they would fill up one of the biggest halls in Lugogo.

Their fear was not because this was their first comedy show, but there were two other shows in different places on the same date. Nonetheless, they received a mammoth crowd, and the duo can now go down in comedy books as one the biggest comedians with three consecutive sell-out events.

But with that crowd, it was only realistic for them to perform to their full potential, a thing they failed to accomplish last Friday evening during the 3rd edition of ‘Nseko Buseko.

Instead they were ordinary, did the same jokes we have seen them perform at different platforms. In their last session, some people were seen leaving the premises with regret.

The show had kicked off fairly, their content was good and they were in synch with their audience.

They went through jokes on relationships and current issues. Their most successful act may have been the joke on men, women and their phones in a relationship.

These jokes were not out of the box but were simple, digestible and hit their core audience since they related with the situations or people in them.

Then they decided to go for a break.

It is during this hour long break that different artistes took to the stage. This was contrary to a promise by the comedians to outdo themselves; “It’s like we have come for a music concert,” a lady in the audience said.

The venue of the show may have worked for the duo financially since they filled it, but they still failed to coordinate their audience as some people that had failed for VIP seats ended up in ordinary seats and vice versa.
