Renowned Ugandan musician Juliana Kanyomozi has refuted reports that she features in a nude video that has gone viral on social media as the country grapples with an unprecedented spike in leakage and circulation of explicit content online.
In a Sunday morning statement the Nabikoowa singer said her adversaries were using the video which features a woman she doesn’t know in their malicious attempts to tarnish her reputation.
“There’s a random video doing rounds on social media and those sharing it claim it’s me in it. I wish to inform the well-meaning public and my fans that am not the person in that video neither do I know the malicious individuals behind it,” Juliana’s statement reads in part.
She urged the public and her fans to refrain from sharing or believing the false content.
“I therefore disassociate myself from it and ask you the general public and my fans to do the same,” she added.
This incident marks the latest in a series of online harassment and false accusations faced by public figures in Uganda.
At least four Ugandans have in the past week suffered ridicule and contempt after their explicit videos were circulated widely online. The victims include an upcoming musician, a TikToker and a student/socialite, among others.
In 2014, Parliament enacted Anti-Pornography law which among others criminalized the production, publication, broadcasting, importation of and sale of pornography material.
