Retirement in Uganda is never a priority for many workers, especially politicians and those in the limelight.
Evidence shows that they would rather die on the job than retire.
For musician Naava Grey, early retirement is what she is considering after her forthcoming concert.
The singer behind songs like Alibomu, Soka Lami, Ninga Omuloge and Nkwetaga, among others revealed this during an appearance on a local television station.
“I posted this on my WhatsApp status saying I might want to retire, but you never know God’s plans,” she said.
In another interview, Naava shared that she was naïve about the spiritual dynamics at play in the music industry as has been claimed by many former musicians in the east African region
“I came into the music world thinking it was all about talent and hard work but I later discovered that some people engage in spiritual practices to manipulate success and control destinies,” she admitted.
She also called upon fellow artists to put all their faith in God in whatever they do.
“Don’t give up on God in whatever you do, He comes first in whatever you do, do not forget him. Your road will not be altered, you will keep on going as others are left behind. That is how it has been, prayer.”
