The Spirit of the nation shines on the global stage

Uganda’s favorite party starter, Uganda Waragi, is once again basking in the global spotlight after bagging a Gold Quality Award at the 2025 Monde Selection Quality Awards and the celebration is only just beginning!

The iconic gin, fondly known as “UG” among fans, has been a staple at Ugandan celebrations for decades, and now it’s getting the international recognition it deserves. With this latest win, Uganda Waragi now boasts a glittering collection of 26 international quality awards, proving that when it comes to taste, craftsmanship, and consistency — nobody does it like UG.

The Monde Selection Awards, run by the International Quality Institute, are kind of like the Grammys for food, drink, and cosmetics — and Uganda Waragi just walked away with one of the top prizes. The judges, made up of world-class experts, don’t just look for taste; they examine everything from ingredients to production to packaging — and UG impressed on all fronts.

Andrew Kilonzo, Managing Director of Uganda Breweries, couldn’t be prouder: “This award is more than a medal — it’s a celebration of local talent and excellence. It shows the world that Uganda can produce premium-quality spirits that compete globally.”

For the UG brand, this isn’t just about racking up trophies. It’s part of a bigger mission to elevate local manufacturing, fight counterfeit alcohol, and deliver premium experiences to every bottle popper across the country. From introducing fun, fresh flavors like Lemon and Ginger, to rolling out tamper-proof packaging, Uganda Waragi is always one step ahead.

The award also shines a spotlight on Jocelline Kanayuwa, the brand’s Quality Assurance Manager, whose team has kept the standards sky-high. “This win shows the heart and science we pour into every batch. It’s more than gin—it’s Ugandan pride in a bottle,” she said.

And just in case anyone forgot, Uganda Breweries also got a special nod for 25 years of consistent beer excellence, reminding everyone that when it comes to keeping the good times flowing, they’ve been at it longer than most.

So, the next time you raise a glass of Uganda Waragi — whether it’s at a rooftop party, a backyard barbecue, or a wedding dancefloor — know that you’re sipping on a gold medal champion.

Cheers to UG — the life of the party and now, officially, a world-class spirit!
